Fritz Hansen The Egg Footstool Fabric, Brown

Arne Jacobsen designed Egg™ for the lobby and lounge areas of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The assignment to design all elements of the hotel building and the furniture was a great opportunity for Jacobsen to put his theories of integrated design and architecture into practice. Egg is one of the triumphs of Jacobsen's designs - a sculptural contrast to the almost purely vertical and horizontal surfaces of the hotel building. Egg was the product of a new technique that Jacobsen was the first to use; a strong inner foam cover under the upholstery.
