The PK9™ chair is also called the "tulip chair" because of its special shape. The history of this chair illustrates Poul Kjærholm's uncompromising search for the perfect shape. The inspiration for the shell shape comes from an imprint left by his wife, Hanne Kjærholm, after sitting in the sand on the beach. During the later shaping process, Hanne Kjærholm sat on clay cubes to find the optimal and most comfortable solution. The PK9™ was designed for the PK54™ table.
