USS Constellation was a 38-gun three-masted frigate of the United States Navy. She was built under the direction of David Stodder at the shipyard The Joseph and Samuel Sterett on Harris Creek in Baltimore's maritime community of Fell's Point and launched on 7 September 1797. She was one of the original six frigates authorized by the Naval Act of 1794. The name "Constellation" was one of the ten names presented to President George Washington by Secretary of War Timothy Pickering in March 1795 for the frigates to be built.
