Father Gilles Robert de Vaugondy and son Didier Robert de Vaugondy were the leading card manufacturers in France in the 17th century. Didier was appointed geographer of Louis XV in 1760 and published globes of various sizes, the largest with a diameter of 2.6 m, 8.5'!
