The AJ Oxford table lamp has a sleek, graphic expression. This reflects the architecture of St. Catherine's College in Oxford, for which the lamp was originally designed. St. Catherine's College was inaugurated in 1963 and designed by Arne Jacobsen in a modernist architectural style that contrasts with the otherwise classical architecture of the surrounding Oxford University. Originally, the AJ Oxford table lamp was designed as a fixed fixture for the college's impressive dining room, which seats 350 people with its long rows of oak tables. While the luminaires on the tables form the focal point, clerestory windows provide natural lighting. AJ Eklipta wall luminaires are also mounted on the walls, creating diffuse general lighting. Even today, the luminaire can still be found in St. Catherine's College, which is still used – both for teaching and as a student residence. The AJ Oxford has – similar to the AJ luminaire series – a slim rod that merges seamlessly into the round foot. With its graphic style and monochrome color palette, the timeless AJ Oxford table lamp blends effortlessly into any home. The table lamp is available in different versions with or without metal shade and in two different heights. The smaller luminaire is the ideal choice when space is limited – for example on a shelf or windowsill. The higher version is also available as a luminaire with screw mounting as a tribute to Arne Jacobsen's original design. This table lamp emits a pleasant, downward-directed light that harmoniously illuminates the underlying surface through three layers of hand-blown opal glass. In the version without a metal upper shade, the shade made of milky opal glass creates a fascinating glow of glory of light around the lamp.
