He perfected the art of glassblowing and in 1953 introduced the now widespread "stock-blowing" method, in which a bubble is made with a damp wooden stick. The Tapio glasses were designed for the Triennale di Milano in 1954 and the collection has been produced continuously since then - longer than any other glass.
